I am a Ph.D. candidate at UC Irvine, advised by Professor Sharad Mehrotra where I work on privacy and security in data management, designing database systems that are provably compliant with data-protection regulation. My emphasis is on data retention management and scalable query optimization in complex, policy-constrained environments. I am particularly interested in formal guarantees for privacy-preserving data processing: collection, retention, and deletion, especially in the presence of data dependencies, adversarial inference, and evolving regulatory frameworks. My work pairs systems-level implementation with rigorous formal methods, drawing on finite model theory, computational complexity, and optimization theory to characterize the computational boundaries of a problem and then design efficient algorithms within them. That dual grounding lets me build solutions that are practically deployable and provably sound. My broader goal is database infrastructure that is both operationally efficient and legally robust. Since 2023, my research has been supported by a fellowship from the Hasso Plattner Institute (HPI) @ UCI, which sustains an active collaboration with Prof. Dr. Felix Naumann and Youri Kaminsky at HPI in Potsdam, Germany, and has taken me there repeatedly as a guest researcher. In 2022, I was a Noyce Fellow supported by the Irvine Initiative for AI, Law, and Society. Before joining UCI, I spent three years (2018–2021) at UC Santa Cruz under the supervision of Professor Phokion Kolaitis in the Jack Baskin School of Engineering, working on computational social choice — the aggregation of personal preferences — and complexity theory. I was supported there by the Regents Fellowship (2017–2018) and by GSRs made possible through this NSF grant. My Erdős number is 3 (Paul Erdős → Bruce Lee Rothschild → Phokion Kolaitis → me). Earlier, I was a postgraduate student in the Faculty of Computer Science and Technology at the University of Cambridge until July 2018, during which I worked on definability and learning on sparse structures under the supervision of Professor Anuj Dawar. I graduated summa cum laude from the University of California, Davis with degrees in Computer Science and Philosophy. My dissertation had two halves, one in each discipline: the late Professor G. Aldo Antonelli and Professor Elaine M. Landry supervised the philosophy component, and Professor Norman Matloff,Professor Nina Amenta, and Professor David Doty supervised the computer science component. UC Davis supported me for four years through a number of awards and scholarships, including the Provost's Award (2013–2017). I also received the Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Research (2017), Outstanding Student of the Year (2017), and departmental citations from both the Computer Science and Philosophy departments.
